When do Turin's Christmas markets open?
The 2026 dates will be announced by the city in the autumn. For reference, in 2025-26 the Christmas Village in Piazza Solferino ran from 5 December to 6 January, and the Borgo Dora market from late November to Christmas Eve. The Luci d'Artista light installations switch on as early as late October and stay until January.
The Christmas Village in Piazza Solferino
The main market in the centre. Last time it had an ice rink, Father Christmas's house and 34 Nordic-style wooden chalets: local products, handmade items, decorations, tastings with a food area and workshops for children. Long opening hours, late into the evening at weekends. From Piazza Solferino you walk to Via Roma, Piazza San Carlo and Piazza Castello.
The Christmas grove on Via Roma: new for 2026
This year the grove, a trail of trees and Christmas displays, will run along the newly renovated Via Roma, centred on Piazza San Carlo. It is meant to show off the new face of the centre during the holidays: a natural stroll between Piazza Castello and Porta Nuova.
The Borgo Dora market
Turin's most traditional Christmas market, in the Cortile del Maglio and the chalets of Piazza Borgo Dora, near Porta Palazzo. Recent editions have gathered around 150 stallholders from across Italy and abroad: nativity scenes, ceramics, woodwork, candles, Nordic jumpers, cheese, honey, chocolate and wine. Open in the afternoon on weekdays and all day at weekends.
New Year in Turin 2026-27
The city has confirmed two events: the concert on the night of 31 December at the Inalpi Arena and the one on 1 January at the Teatro Regio. Programme and tickets are not out yet. On New Year's Eve, staying on the hill means no hunting for parking in the centre: plan a taxi for the way back.
Tips for a Christmas weekend in Turin
When to go. The December weekends before Christmas are the busiest: if you can, choose Friday and Sunday evenings, or the days between Christmas and Epiphany.
Getting around. The centre is very busy during the holidays: leave the car at a park-and-ride or take public transport, and explore on foot.
Don't miss. A hot chocolate or a bicerin under the arcades, the Luci d'Artista at night, and in the morning the snowy view from the hill.
